24-Hour SORA Training in New Jersey

The Security Officer Registration Act (SORA) requires all aspiring security guards in New Jersey to complete a 24-hour certification course with an NJSP-approved instructor. David Mauro offers this armed and unarmed SORA class in the Flanders area, with options for both online and in-person attendance.

Since 2007, SORA training has been mandatory for all contract security positions throughout the state. This class prepares you for the certification exam and qualifies you for both armed and unarmed security roles.

Choose Your Training Format

David Mauro may offer this SORA class in the following formats:

  • Live Virtual Training (Zoom): Complete the entire 24-hour course from your home in Flanders or anywhere with reliable internet. Perfect for busy schedules. Camera must be active throughout — NJSP requires visual confirmation of attendance.
  • Classroom Training: Face-to-face instruction in the New Jersey area. Ideal if you prefer a structured, in-person learning environment.

Check with the instructor to see which options are currently available for upcoming sessions.

  • Registration is confirmed after payment is received
  • Punctuality is required — class begins at the scheduled time
  • Virtual students must maintain an active webcam and distraction-free environment
  • If you cannot attend your scheduled date, contact David Mauro to arrange a new session
  • Class materials and joining instructions will be provided prior to the start date

  • Full refund: Available if requested 72 hours or more before the scheduled class date
  • Reschedule or partial refund: Available for cancellations made 24-72 hours before class

All refund requests must be communicated directly to the instructor. State and fingerprinting fees are paid to separate agencies and are beyond the instructor's control.

Cancellation / Return / Exchange Policy

Rescheduling & Cancellation

If you need to reschedule your SORA class, contact David Mauro as early as possible. One complimentary reschedule is typically available per enrollment, subject to class availability. Repeated no-shows may forfeit your enrollment.

Instructor cancellations: In the rare event that a class must be cancelled by the instructor (weather, emergency, minimum enrollment not met), all registered students will be offered a full refund or priority placement in the next available session.

Important NJSP deadline: Remember that your NJSP application expires 30 days from the date issued. If you reschedule close to your deadline, you may need to reapply with the State Police. Plan accordingly.
