About This SORA Certification Class

Launch your career as a licensed security officer in New Jersey with this comprehensive 24-hour SORA certification class in Trenton. This course covers both armed and unarmed security officer certification and is taught by Michael Flaherty, a certified SORA instructor registered with the New Jersey State Police (NJSP).

Upon successful completion, along with your NJSP application and fingerprinting, you’ll be eligible to receive your NJ SORA certification — the credential required for all contract security guard positions in the state.

How This Class Is Delivered

Training is available in two formats to suit your needs:

💻 Virtual / Zoom Class: Join from anywhere in New Jersey using your laptop, tablet, or phone. The class is live and interactive — not pre-recorded. You’ll need a stable internet connection and your camera must stay on for the full 24 hours, as required by NJSP policy.

🏢 In-Person Classroom: Attend in the Trenton area. Classroom training allows for hands-on instruction and direct interaction with your instructor and classmates. Contact Michael Flaherty for location details.

  • Emergency Response — fire safety, evacuation procedures, first aid basics, and emergency communication
  • Report Writing — proper incident documentation, daily activity reports, and evidence preservation
  • Ethics & Professional Conduct — professional standards, confidentiality, and conduct expectations
  • Access Control & Patrol — securing entrances, patrol techniques, surveillance, and suspicious activity detection
  • Homeland Security Awareness — counter-terrorism basics, threat recognition, and reporting procedures
  • Armed Security Topics — NJ firearms laws, safe handling, and armed officer responsibilities (for armed certification)
